Snapshots and Melodies as People of Ethiopia Observe Gratitude Festival
Countless individuals of colorfully attired attendees gathered in downtown the city center for the yearly gratitude celebration this weekend.
The festival is honored by the Oromo community, Ethiopia's largest ethnic group, and occurs at the completion of the land's primary monsoon period.
Each year, festival-goers come together around revered natural water sources to show appreciation to their higher powers for the greenery that the rainy season have delivered.
"I have participated in the festival for the previous nine years," mentioned young adult a participant.
"To me, the celebration represents my identity, it reflects the dignity and greatness of my community."
Men, ladies, the elderly and the younger generation all participate, decorated in striking attire and accessories.
They sing, dance, tell tales and arrange freshly cut green plants and blossoms in liquid - representing life, rebirth and optimism.
International Presence

Festival Program
The initial day of the event took place on Saturday in the capital. On Sunday, participants made their way to Bishoftu, a community just outside the capital.

In the last ten years, the number of individuals participating in the event has grown significantly. This is partly due to the rise of social media, where various youth record their clothing, dancing and musical expressions during the celebration.

However, this year's celebration proceeded harmoniously, with an emphasis on happiness, togetherness and ethnic identity.
