Exploring an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Poop with the Goal to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have discovered plenty of interesting independent titles. However, one stands out for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game features a character that is truly a turd attempting to make its way to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is straightforward: press a jump control. Across one hundred fifty challenges, you'll face tough enemies and unlock a market to buy outfits for your fecal avatar.
Time your jumps with caution, as a wrong move forces beginning again. Leap off air pockets to hurl the poop to new heights, cross disappearing ledges, and interact with switches to unlock secret routes. Collect coins and use them on more difficult levels as the action intensifies.
Graphically, the demo boasts neon stages and catchy background music. The retro art featuring moving abstract forms could recall fans of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although hard to think of similar titles where you control a dung character, gaming often featured scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players craft explosives from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as fertilizer. Naturally, fecal references shows up extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its silly concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, like being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is ready now on Steam, with the complete version planned to debut on PC in the fall.
