Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Substantial Control Tower IT Issue
Passenger services have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a significant air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.
All aircraft movements were stopped due to an technical fault that arose around 08:30.
Some passengers were left waiting in jets at the stand while the issue persisted.
Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
That said, considerable delays are likely to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with numerous other services facing hold-ups.
Officials had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be disrupted.
"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the latest information on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.
Cause of the Chaos
The airport attributed the full ground stop to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.
Travelers are still being urged to check the status of their trip before departing to the terminal as backlogs are managed.
